I've had it on my "to-do" list that I wanted to cover Italian food in Dallas, but just hadn't gotten around to it. I still had a couple places I wanted to try and I really wasn't sure how I'd shoot it. For mine (and my sister's) birthday, my mom usually makes her spaghetti and meatballs. I thought this was the opportunity to shoot some spaghetti and not give extreme favor to one restaurant. Also, I'm not sure my pant size would have appreciated it if I had shot/eaten at each place! So yeah, not my typical photo shoot -  was trying to just get them over so we could enjoy our family meal.

Before I give you my list, I want to clarify something. Dallas doesn't have a ton of what I would consider true Italian. We have some funky Italian stuff and some average and not so great as well. If you're looking for a restaurant or are coming in town and wanted to eat Italian food, I wanted to have a reputable list for you!

  • Nonna - Including this first, because overall I think it's the best. It's tiny, you have to make a reservation, but the food is SO GOOD. It's actually in the same restaurant brand as Sprezza and Carbone's, which I mention below.
  • Sprezza - Nick and I love Sprezza. We like to go in right when it opens and sit at the bar. Their bartenders are amazing. Their food is delightful. 100%!
  • Lucia - Lucia is the Queen of The Bishop Arts district. She is delightfully Italian and a real treat.  You used to have to make reservations months in advance and you kind of still do, but now you can do it online! They also have a couple of bar seats you can try and snag right when they open as well.
  • Carbone's - Their plum tomato sauce is the best, the end.
  • Macellaio - So I haven't tried this yet, but I had to include it because it's Lucia's new restaurant that focuses more on charcuterie and has A TON OF BAR SEATS. Yay for last minute plans and no reservation!
  • Dolce Riviera - This is like shabby chic Italian - thing blue gingham with the most amazing patio. Seriously. If you want Italian and a patio go here. Order anything with truffle oil and you're good.
  • Mille Lire - This is a newer place and I've only been once, but it was really good. The decor is so pretty too!

OTHER:

  • Pie Tap. Pie Tap is our favorite pizza! They have a Sicilian chef and their pizza dough tastes like you're in Italy. It's only 5 ingredients and they make E V E R Y T H I N G in it from scratch. I didn't include it in the list above, because I think pasta when I think "let's have Italian." I think "let's have pizza" when I want to have pizza. They do have pasta though. I have tried it and it wasn't my favorite. THE PIZZA IS THE BEST.
  • Sassetta. I didn't put this on the main list, because it's not traditional Italian. It's more like Italian inspired. It's really good and offers everything from breakfast to dinner.
  • Terilli's. I've never actually been here, but I have heard so many good things that I had to include it.
