Hey y'all!! I swear, I don't even know what day it is...we were in San Francisco Monday and tomorrow is already Friday?! It was been the longest short week of my life, but there are worst things. I can't complain!  Last weekend, Nick and I took a trip to the golden state. If you remember, we went last summer! We stayed at Hotel Carlton in SF (literally a block away from Mr. Holmes Bakehouse!) and this time we stayed at The Waterfront Hotel, in Oakland.

The Waterfront Hotel is located in Jack London Square, about 30 minutes away from the city. It was my first time staying in Oakland, as well as my first time really spending time there, besides just flying into its airport. I feel like San Francisco is all that is talked about and Oakland is completely usually forgotten. And guess what? It is underrated!! There is so much to do and see there, I think I would need to stay for 3 weeks to even try and cover both cities. One of my favorite parts about Oakland is that there is more ROOM. I was like "everything i bigger in Oakland";)

Joie de Vivre is the company that The Waterfront Hotel is under. JDV hotels are very boutique-y and that is what I love about them! The Waterfront was such a fun beachy vibe, but wasn't SoCal beachy, if you know what I mean. Our room was fantastic in size and amenities. I think my favorite part was the fireplace - I don't think I've ever been in a hotel room that had one! We had a great view of the town square, as well as the water...hence the name. Did you SEE the pictures of the lobby?! How freaking cute. I wanted to take all of the copper pops home with me. It is so cozy and quaint, while be fun and modern at the same time. The staff was great and super helpful. If you decide to rent a car, they do have valet. If you are worried about there being "things to do", don't fret. Jack London Square has several places to go that you could walk to. Of course there are other things near by, andddd if you really want to head into the city, you can.

So what was my overall thought? Honestly, when we go back to the SF area (We WILL, especially with the wine bar), I will definitely consider staying in Oakland over San Francisco, for the reasons listed above. I love and appreciate the city...I mean that's what I live everyday (with a few less cars and people of course), but when I vacation, I need the more peaceful, laid back style and The Waterfront Hotel gave me that.

Have you ever stayed in Oakland over San Francisco? What did you think?
